Arctic Returns home

So after the UK decided to leave the EU and although the government making some statements that it wouldn’t effect any UK boaters abroad it ended that it will definitely effect UK registered yachts. After much discussion and talking with friends we decided it would be better to have Arctic sailed back to the UK so she was there for 31 December when the UK leaves the EU. We did have a year to sail her back following a change in the rules but we didn’t waste a year in our travels doing ground we have already covered and are that bit colder….. As a family, we didn’t want to be crossing Biscay etc late in the season so some friends volunteered to sail her to the UK on our behalf. Thank you guys. We stayed in Licata on a friends boat until our return to the UK late December. We were also forced to return to the UK as under the new rules we can’t stay in Europe more than 90 days in every 180 and we didn’t want to use those days during the winter months. So Arctic Fern set sail mid November with her new Raymarine chart plotter in place. The old one which was only 4 years old had screen issues. The replacement however was annoyingly not 24v nor was it NMEA compatible with some of our equipment. Supposedly if we paid an extra £1,000 it would have done both. I’m glad it didn’t die when I wired it up to the 24v that the old one ran on……So she did the trip without us and manage to arrive on the river Orwell mid December.
